BATON ROUGE, LA (AP) – A new Louisiana audit finds oversight problems with a fund that finances fraud investigations and prosecutions of health providers accused of bilking the state’s Medicaid program.

The legislative auditor says Louisiana’s health department and attorney general’s office didn’t properly identify and deposit the required money into the Medicaid Fraud Fund.
Auditors say about $3.5 million that should have been used to track and prosecute Medicaid fraud didn’t get deposited during the 2016 budget year. The health department and the attorney general’s office say they corrected the issues as soon as they were identified by the auditor and the dollars were transferred.
The report released Monday is the latest by Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera’s office to raise issues with the management of Louisiana’s more than $12 billion Medicaid program.
