While North Carolina leaders have chosen to not expand Medicaid, hospitals like UNC Lenoir Health Care are trying to help those who fall in the gap.
Debbie Grace, director of patient financial services at UNC Lenoir Health Care, said the hospital offers many options to patients.
“We have a company on site here that works with patients to see if they are eligible for Medicaid,” Grace said. “If that doesn’t work out and they do not qualify we can offer assistance through our financial councilors and one of our case managers for the Affordable Care Act, and finally we have a financial assistance program that we offer to individuals who are denied Medicaid.”
The financial assistance program is offered to patients on a case by case basis through an application process.
