The state Department of Health and Human Services has scored a victory in working out temporary payments for Medicaid providers.Those payments had been in question since the department discovered a problem with the method used to figure provider rates.When working on renewing the Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services waiver program, officials discovered that providers were being paid for services that went beyond the 35 hours per week allowed by Medicaid. Those services, such as job coaching, transportation and crisis intervention, mostly were performed on weekends.Providers are paid with both federal and state funds through the waiver, which helps provide services to people who would otherwise be in institutions, nursing homes or hospitals.State Developmental Disabilities Director Courtney Miller said Tuesday the department worked out a deal with the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that will help ensure providers don’t lose money once a new Medicaid waiver …
