SPRINGFIELD, Mo.   •  Mercy Hospital Springfield is no longer in danger of losing Medicare and Medicaid funding, at least for the near future.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services placed Mercy Hospital Springfield in “immediate jeopardy” in early September after finding deficiencies in patient health and safety.

The hospital, part of the Chesterfield-based Mercy syst6em, said in a news release Friday that the federal agency removed that status from the hospital.

The Springfield News-Leader reports the hospital is still out of compliance on a few requirements but investigators will revisit the hospital in October to see if those factors are corrected.

Earlier this month, Mercy fired 12 employees for patient care that was not up to its standards.

A federal report says the hospital has failed to consistently investigate patient grievances and didn’t report allegations of alleged abuse.
