Medicaid Waivers
Florida is looking to cut its budget for a Medicaid program that serves the disabled. But advocates say any funding cuts to the services could end up costing the state even more money in the long run.
At the same time, local families are speaking out about the problems they’ve had with Florida’s Medicaid waiver program. Some parents have waited years to get treated, and in some cases, children have died waiting. Chris Gabbard is an English professor at UNF who wrote A Life Beyond Reason, a memoir about his late son, August, who spent five years on the waiting list to receive the Medicaid waiver. Debbie Heaton is the adoptive parent of many children with complex medical issues and developmental disabilities.
Regenerative Agriculture
Justin Root of Nutritional Roots joined us to discuss “regenerative agriculture,” which is being billed as a solution both human health and environmental health, in today’s Going Green.
Mission House
Mission House’s Compassion by the Sea Soiree takes place Sept. 26. The event raises awareness and funds for the agency, which helps those living on the streets of The Beaches area. Lori Delgado Anderson, Executive Director Mission House, Inc., joined us with more information.
