The Human Services Department released this afternoon  a monthly update by Director Cindy Gillespie on people insured thanks to applications for Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion — about 317,000.It was in a letter to Gov. Asa Hutchinson in which she pledged to continue to working on the overall sustainability of the Medicaid program, of which the Obamacare expansion is only a partThis followed a letter to her from Gov. Asa Hutchinson asking her to lead an effort with other department heads to develop a five-year Medicaid plan with emphases including “managing costs” and “reducing risks to the state.” Spend less in other words. That is just about always impossible without 1) reducing services or 2) charging more to people who receive the services.
