Federal support for Medicaid would shrivel even more over time under the Senate bill, likely forcing states to tighten enrollment, cut benefits or reduce provider rates, the Congressional Budget Office found.
Spending would drop by about 35% in 2036, compared to current law, according to the report, which was released Thursday. The analysis, requested by Democratic leaders, showed that the gap in federal support would widen after 2025.
